Plaster Ceiling Restoration

Molded plaster ceilings are susceptible to water leaks, causing rot or rust deterioration of the support system beneath, which could include structural rafters, joists, wood or metal lathe, and ruining the plaster directly.  Molded plaster can be run in place, or shop fabricated, cast  and installed in the field. Complicated molding elements might be wood and composition, all within the scope of Olek's restoration expertise.

Composition Ornament
Composition ornaments and moldings  are made of sawdust, plaster, and glue, and is fabricated in molds.  Composition moldings  are an economical alternative to carvings.  There are thousands of historic profiles available for designs from all historic periods, for ceilings, cornice moldings, wainscot, chair rails,  stair newel posts, stair stringers, fireplace mantels, and other architectural components.  You can select from existing designs, or Olek can make new custom composition ornaments. We can design and layout ornaments, install and finish per your design or ours.

Plaster Ceiling Moulding
Restoration of molded plaster ceilings requires making "mother" molds of the existing elements in place, casting new elements, and skillfully cutting the new into the old.  Before installation, damaged plaster from the scratch and brown coats must be removed, architectural supports then wire or wood lathe repaired.   The plaster substrate is repaired, then the new moldings may be installed, similar to those pictured in the gallery.
