Upholstered Furniture shows very little of the work that goes into it, until one sits on it. Original upholstery often contains coil springs, horsehair and cotton materials, which is often replaced by some reupholsterers without discussion with their clients, with cheaper foam rubber. The feel of foam rubber is different than coil spring upholstery. Coil springs provides firmer support, for the better part of a century, compared to 5 -20 years at best for foam rubber. Down cushions can also be partitioned to prevent shifting of padding. This eliminates frequent plumping of cushions, and yields a much firmer, more comfortable cushion that supports where you sit, instead of everywhere else.
There are many types of recovering that we do, and features provided as part of our service, some of which are listed below:
• With specialized stitching, including saddle stitching, or hand stitching
• Recovering with polyethylene or rubber backing, such as is found with Eames Lounge Chairs or Pollack Chairs manufactured by Herman Miller
•Any type of fabric, vinyl, or suede
• Victorian button tufted upholstery

Recovering French Club Chair with Custom Dyed & Distresed Fabric Skin

The patina of an old sofa is wonderful. But, after 80 years or more, the fabric skin is often too fragile to sit on. Our solution is to take a top-grain vegetable tanned hide, and then apply aniline dye, pigmented stains, and lacquer to replicate the patina of the original worn one.

CUSTOM HAND-STITCHING RESTORATION:
|
Custom hand-stitching is necessary in many periods of furniture, including the Craftsman style shown below, and much more so for Art Deco and Modern furniture. Chairs such as the Eero Aarnio Swan or Egg Chairs are entirely hand-stitched.
