This book-matched Rosewood-veneered elevator cab was sanded through the veneer in 1 sq.ft. areas. Our artists grained the poplar showing through and faux-finished the spots to precisely match the rosewood pattern repeating around the cab. It was not possible to see that the veneer had been damaged following the repair. There were approximately twenty cabs in similar condition at this prominent building lobby in NYC.

270 Park Ave. Rosewood Elevator Cabs (before Crystal Pavilion)

Many cabs sanded through veneer by prior "restorers", typically in 6" x 8" or larger areas. Required extensive graining and infilling by artists, to match graining. After touch-up, cannot tell rosewood from faux finished poplar beneath.
