Presbyterian Church.
Pew & Architectural Woodwork Restoration

Location: 10 E. Main St.; Flemington, NJ
Completion date: 8/31/92

 

Scope of Work/Nature of Work:
Restoration of 950 lineal feet of Eastlake Gothic chestnut and walnut pews and reinstallation to sloped round amphitheater floor. Disassembly of all pews, repair of damaged elements with Dutchman inlays, and regluing and refinishing of all pews, for Church listed in National Register of Historic Places, ca. 1870

The pews were lovingly nailed together by parishioners for at least 50 years. Extensive splitting of the backs and seats and side panels was focused around the added nails; the wood couldn't expand and contract with humidity changes after nailing.
