Persian Doors, ca. 11th century

These fabulous temple doors were shipped from Australia without being crated! Carved ornaments and molding were lost in transit and had to be recarved and installed. The painted decorative finish was also touched-up and waxed. It is interesting to note that the original sill wood was still intact and usable after one thousand years.

Studying the intricate workmanship of this double door, with an opening only 4'x 6'H, with 288 separate carved panels is inspirational!
